Princeton University to Staff: Stop Using the Word 'Man'

Princeton University is telling faculty and staff to avoid using the word "man" and other male-leaning language.

Princeton's Human Resources and Office of Communications issued a four-page memo filled with examples of preferable, gender-neutral terminology that must now be used in official school documents.

Examples in the four-page memo include:

    • The word "actress" should be replaced by "actor."
    • A "cameraman" must now be called a "camera operator."
    • There will be no more references to a "cleaning lady," but instead an "office cleaner."
    • New students are no longer "freshmen" but rather "first-year students."
    • A "mailman" no longer delivers letters or packages, because that's the work now of a "mail carrier," "letter carrier" or "postal worker."
    • Nothing is to ever be done for the betterment of "mankind" but instead for "humanity," "human kind" or simply "people."
    • A "waiter" or "waitress" will no longer dish out grub, as that's now the work of a "server."
    • An "average man" is now an "average person" or "ordinary person."

"HR has developed these gender inclusive style guidelines to be utilized by all HR staff members in HR communications, policies, job descriptions and job postings," according to the memo.

"These communication guidelines reflect the inclusive culture and policies at Princeton University."

We have the same here in Norway. The motivation has to do with gender equality, not to do with gender neutrality.

But, to the devil it makes perfect sense.. along with those that listen to him.

Old slewfoot is always 180 degrees opposite of God. Whatever God creates, satan seeks to twist it.

This is all actually good cause it's becoming more clear who is with God and who is against God.

Jesus did say He came to bring division... and this is it, who is with Him and who isn't.

The down side is it's getting harder to find people that are actually hungry to hear about the Lord which is why Jesus told the parable about the important people would not come to the wedding so he sent them out to the rejects of society to invite them which is why there is revival going on in many poor countries while not so much in the richer western countries where people have a lot of options... they think they don't need no Jesus.

When I was in elementary school back in the 50's, we were taught that men was used when referring to a mixed group. It included women. Things such as Biblical references to "all men". It meant all people and everyone back then understood it.

I understand that changing our verbiage is annoying, and at times unnecessary, but why is it inherently evil that we want to create gender equality? For example, the term "cleaning lady"...I don't know about y'all, but I see more men working sanitation than women. Why is this of the devil to want to use a term that expresses the totality of those being addressed?

Most of these are ok, I have a problem with "freshman" and "mankind" both terms are understood to include both genders.
