Unfortunately for those that do not believe in tithing... it's not about the money, it's about putting God first.
The Book of Hebrews states Jesus is accepting the tithe and He does not accept things unless it is the Father's will so tithing cam long before the Levitical law and has remained unchanged as being God's will throughout the history of of mankind - where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21)

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
The woman tithed for 50+ years, probably longer than anyone posting here has. The "church" rewarded her with a LETTER OF DISMISSAL for her years of faithfulness.
Some of you need to smash that heart of stone. Return to your first love.

Not saying what this church did wasn't wrong... tithing also is not wrong and is God's will.
But, it's also something that is between us and God and not something a church should give you the boot for.
That's alright, God will find her a better church!

Your assumption that those of us who have opted to not pass judgment either way have lost OUR FIRST LOVE, is offensive. God's love and compassion are not the same as 'sympathy' or even 'empathy', two of the characteristics demonstrated in this thread quite a bit.
