Dunno .
You could ask why the little dude with 5 loaves and two fish diidnt simply give it to the crowd himself. Possibly because he would have missed the multiplier effect that comes with an apostolic blessing when things are done collectively in the name of the Lord .. ? You know that thing about 1 putting a thousand to flight and. 2 putting ten thousand ?
You may also have to ask the apostles Paul and Peter why they insisted on being the collection agents for all monetary offerings .
Paul insisted that they brought it on the first day of every week and Peter and the rest of the Apostles seed to have a thing for the money being dropped at their feet ?
Dunno :)

That doesn't mean that they didn't also give directly to the poor when they were elsewhere than in church.
Mat 15:30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.
Just means they were being submitted to him, it's not a sign of deference or anything. In Jesus' case it simply meant that he now had work to do.

I have to ask, why even send a letter like that? Is she using resources? I can understand if they want to stop sending her offering envelopes since she's not sending in a tithe, but to basically excommunicate her just seems to send the wrong message. I guess I just don't understand the "tithe or else, or more accurately, tithe or your outta here, or, most accurately, you didn't tithe so we're excommunicating you!" message here. I wonder if anyone ever visited her to find out what was going on since she was at one point so active. Is it a new pastor that didn't know her? I hear what you are all saying about rules and such, but to send a letter like that, notarized even, to a shut in seems very non-Christian. I really wish I knew the church's side.

It's a basic question, do they love the person or her money the most. This applies, just with varying effects, regardless of the amount of money the person in question has to offer.

Attempts to contact members or officials from the church for their side of the story were unsuccessful.
