With al the rhetoric I would like to add one thing....I do NOT believe what this church did was scriptural...just to be clear, what I said WAS that IF this was part of a membership agreement then that would be the issue to be addressed...a covenant agreement is never to be taken lightly. I stated early n that I actually don't believe 'taking membership' is Biblical to begin with.

Second point has been that we don't know all the facts in this situation and that it's a bad idea to pass judgment without all those facts..

Now...ya'll continue with you choosing of sides social media courtroom style...

You're absolutely right! That woman made a mistake in doing more for the church in her younger years and not putting aside the difference for the years when she might not be able to do as much. Young people should also take note to never give over 10%, but to put the balance in a bank account for their advanced years so that they can continue paying their tithe. That way, they are always obeying the law.

I have never heard of a group that has no rules at all. That would be anarchy. No rules? People can do as they please. Could I come into your church and go through the audience at random and cast out demons from the people? Maybe I could knock people over when I pray in such a way as to scare the people out of the church.
What?!! are you kidding who? All groups have rules that must be kept. Many of the rules are not in the Bible but just one man's opinion over another man's opinion. This woman is old but breaks the rules.

Some of the meanest people I have met are old. Being old does not make you nice. It is Jesus that makes you nice.

I can't believe what I am reading here on this thread. This is shocking.

I wish I could say this is all unbelievable, but I've seen it all before.

Yet it's still so very sad.

Scripture is our guideline. The Spirit and love of God rules us.

Hey, I'm coming around to your way of thinking. She is a rule breaker. She shouldn't have given one cent more than 10% back in the day, then maybe she wouldn't be in this mess now. No one should give above what they are legally required to do.

Now you have to wonder why none of the family notified the church that she was ill, they could have at least asked the church to pray for her since she was such a long term member.
Why the family didn't notify the church? So it's the family's fault?

If the pastor had a true shepherd's heart, HE would be checking up on her, not waiting for the family.
Some families don't give a rip about their elderly relatives.

It's the pastor's job to care for his flock. Over 50 yrs of service to this church and then they kick her to the curb when she's old and shut in? These people are PATHETIC

Nikos...I have come to understand from this thread that THEY CAN'T HEAR YOU. And no matter what we say it will either get ridiculed and mocked or misconstrued...

You only pay tithe on your income. If you have no income then you don't pay tithe. In this situation, there is not enough info to determine if this woman had no income.
I love to pay my tithe. In fact I pay double tithe and then my offerings. It is glorious. What a blessing to pay tithe!
There is OBVIOUSLY more to this story. You can never determine what is happening when you only have only some of the info.

You have mercy on the poor and elderly by helping them across the street or up the stairs. Or seeing to it that they have groceries And transportation. BUT YOU NEVER SHOW MERCY WHEN IT COMES TO BREAKING THE RULES/LAW!! It is not your mercy that will get someone else by. God will never wink His eye at sin.
