Okay, so workers should be payed less so that the poor who don't work can afford to shop there. Sorry, too socialistic for my taste. Seen too much socialism like that in my own country.

    It's pretty straightforward.

Seriously, uncomplicate your thought life and get rid of useless musings. :)
You mean my personal decision to avoid shopping at Walmart because of their treatment of workers is not going to persuade the Walton family to change their entire business model?? Oh well ....

Just for the record , Socialism is a form of statism meaning Central Planning by the state. So applying the "socialistic" label to a privately held entity like Walmart strongly suggests a gross misunderstanding of the Word "Socialism" and what it means hence the reason why I assumed your comment was tongue in cheek

AND, you don't have to buy enough to supply a small third world company.

We service 4 WalMarts.. we're adding 2 more in a couple of weeks.

We see GREAT employees, and horrible employees. We see some folks who've been there for as long as we have and have seen turn over in management continually.

Just like every other Big Box store, their bottomline is profit. If it's not making money, it's gone. It's not a charitable organization so the reason they have folks working there is to facilitate making those bucks. I do appreciate that they give jobs to some of the older folks merely to say "hi" and be nice.. and those folks say "hi" and ARE nice.

Kay, I agree about buying USA.. but, personal story here, about 20 years ago my husband and I had a small business and we determined we wanted to NOT buy from China. After doing the research to find products made in the USA or Mexico, or, or.. we found out we'd have not much to offer. We had to relent and take what was available that our customers would buy.

And, unfortunately, price makes a big difference. A lot of people won't pay extra to support USA made.

    Good point.

If a consumer actually witnessed the conditions in the third-world sweatshop where their purchased item was made, they'd probably be willing to pay more. The problem (for which there's no solution) is that the market insulates consumers from this knowledge.

I have a Costco membership too - I buy their store-brand Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, and a few Pantry items that last me for months - The bulk prices and the fact that I don't have to run to the store for these items on a weekly basis, makes the membership fee worthwhile to me.

However, I never eat those samples they give out - I've seen too many of their "Sample Ladies" coughing, sneezing and picking their noses.
