    That sounded like they knew they didnt have to do anything unless they wanted to and then they ended up liking her better than him. Then they milked him for more money instead. The fact that they handed her incriminating evidence demonstrates that they are above the law in Burundi and can do whatever they want, mafia style. Thats a very lucky woman.
