    Current US foreign affairs

    Truth Social

"If Tito Asfura wins for President of Honduras, because the United States has so much confidence in him, his Policies, and what he will do for the Great People of Honduras, we will be very supportive. If he doesn't win, the United States will not be throwing good money after bad, because a wrong Leader can only bring catastrophic results to a country, no matter which country it is. Tito will be a Great President, and the United States will work closely with him in order to ensure the success, with all of its potential, of Honduras! Additionally, I will be granting a Full and Complete Pardon to Former President Juan Orlando Hernandez who has been, according to many people that I greatly respect, treated very harshly and unfairly. This cannot be allowed to happen, especially now, after Tito Asfura wins the Election, when Honduras will be on its way to Great Political and Financial Success. VOTE FOR TITO ASFURA FOR PRESIDENT, AND CONGRATULATIONS TO JUAN ORLANDO HERNANDEZ ON YOUR UPCOMING PARDON. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE HONDURAS GREAT AGAIN!

    PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP"

Former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández was extradited to the US in 2022, he was accused of leading a major drug-trafficking conspiracy — allegedly cooperating with some of the world's largest cocaine-trafficking organizations to funnel hundreds of thousands of kilograms of cocaine through his country and into the United States.
The indictment alleges that he accepted millions of dollars in bribes from traffickers in exchange for using his political power, law enforcement, and the military to protect and facilitate drug shipments.

Reminds me of when Trump threatened Brazil with higher tariffs unless they undid his political ally and former president Bolsonaro's 27 year prison sentence.

Hondurans are casting their ballots in the general election that is being dominated by threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Mr. Trump supports Nasry "Tito" Asfura, the Right Wing National Party.
If Asfura does not win, Trump has threatened to cut financial aid to Hondurans (he has threatened to do the same thing to Argentina if his candidate does not win in that country too).

Apart from the pardoning, it reminds me of 20th century US dealings with "banana republics". Or is "sh*thole countries" the new term for those?

The voting process is already looking like a "Banana Republic" typical election with candidates accusing each other of cheating / fraud.

Well, there was no difference when Biden and the democrats stole the election in 2020.

But with Trump back in office, he is attempting to enact new voter laws like showing mandatory voter ID at the polls and cracking down on mail in voter fraud. I hope he's successful. We definitely need a overhaul on the United States voter and election process. The democrats will always attempt to find new ways to cheat, it's what they do best, and they know that's the only way they can win, cheat.

Gerrymandering is rampant on both sides. It's as if both are thinking that "we need to be as bad as the other ones". What a culture.

Someone said the party's are Siamese twins joined at the hip. It's one party being portrayed as two. It's a magic show. First you see two and poof, one vanishes, and now there is one. Once the curtain is opened, your watching a side show, an illusion, all theater with special effects.

It's a close Honduran presidential Election. The two top candidates are virtually tied.
In the meantime, former President Juan Orlando Hernandez was released from serving a 45-year prison sentence.
