In his best moments, David Bowie was some sort of absolutist as an artist.
I remember being on the Cape Verde islands around Christmas on a day when the moon was in a perfect zenith and there were no clouds whatsoever. I was on the beach, in a perfectly flat landscape with no mountains nearby. So I layed down on my back and looked up, straight at the moon. I could see absolutely nothing except the moon and the stars and it seemed like the Earth had disappeared. Now look at my avatar and picture the same scene just with the milky way. Now picture being able to turn in any direction you want and still seeing the same scene around you.
That resembles Bowie's art in his best moments, whether it was music or acting in a music video or movie. The man certainly longed for God.
