    I have no idea...if you lose power the milk goes bad and there are plenty of other foods one can eat when trapped indoors to BREAD..I think it is so STRANGE...it's like some primeval instinct or something.

    It goes back to our Grandmothers...not being able to get to the store...not having lots of stuff in the pantry, so you had to make sure you had what you needed. We do the same thing when a hurricane is coming...though it's a moot point now that we have pantries full of soup, and whatever else we need.
