    Jenny Craig Shutting Its Doors

Weight loss giant Jenny Craig is "winding down physical operations" at its 500 retail locations after it failed to "secure additional funding," NBC reports.

Of the 1,000+ workers, hourly employees were informed by email Tuesday night they were terminated while corporate and salaried field employees will finish on Friday.

The company which had celebrity endorsements in the past from Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli, and Mariah Carey was reportedly searching for a buyer for the last two weeks but failed to find one.

"They say it's never over until the fat lady sings," said national radio host Todd Starnes. "I reckon the fat lady sang."

He added, "I do wonder if Jenny Craig fell victim to the body positivity movement."

The movement, made famous by Lizzo, pushes back against fatphobia, the fear of fat people or weight loss.

"Nobody wants a bunch of ill-tempered large gals comin' after ya," Starnes said.

Jenny Craig previously told NBC News "transitioning from a brick-and-mortar retail business to a customer-friendly, e-commerce driven model," but with the big announcement, it's unclear if the switch will still happen.

I read that these weight loss centers are losing business also because of the availability of medicines such as Ozempic which actually suppress appetite (with side effects of course).

I also heard that many obese people are resorting to weight loss surgery too.

In my opinion, people are figuring out these plans are expensive and when you reach your goal and try to eat similar to the plan, it usually doesn't work. You gain your weight back and usually some extra. I think these weight loss businesses count on return customers and people are wising up.

Save your money and work at it on your own.

I did the Jenny Craig program years ago. Not enough food to feed a mouse!

A friend of mine who's diabetic, has been taking the Mounjaro injection. She lost 27 pounds the first month, and another 10-15 the next. She looks fabulous and her numbers are perfect. There's a similar drug called Wegovy which I tried to get prescribed a while ago, but my insurance won't cover it.

One has to be diabetic to be covered by insurance for Mounjaro, or be pre-diabetic. Wegovy's active ingredient is semaglutide, Mounjaro's is tirzatide. Wegovy is prescribed to individuals living with Obesity. The side effects of both drugs are reported to be mild.

I had neither diabetes nor was I obese. I wanted to get 25 pounds off that I had a difficult time losing, but it was going to cost me $1600.00 for Wegovy because I wasn't "fat" enough.

Insurance companies would rather you be sick. Doctors can't make money off you if you're well.

My very healthy sister had to take a physical for a job promotion at GM. The doctor was so upset that she couldn't find anything wrong with my sister so she forced her to accept a prescription for eyeglasses before she would pass her on the physical. This is how evil and devious many in the medical profession are.

I believe that we need common sense fat acceptance. Meaning that people don't need to yo yo diet, but appreciate who they are, not what they look like, while pursuing a healthier lifestyle.
