Star Wars $600 Million in Ticket Sales...
Call me naive, but when I heard this today, my first thought was:
Wow!
... How many hungry children could we feed, Habitat for Humanity houses could we build, military Vets could we help, and scholarships could we give away to struggling and deserving young people with that kind of money?

Problem is you can't get that many people to unify to get that done..
Another perspective
That's about 40M at $15.00 a pop
To start with you have to get them to agree on the cause..
Truth is people give a LOT to causes...an article I read said World Vision nets 2.7 in 2011 and employees 44,000 according to Wikipedia.
As Jesus noted...the poor we will always have with us.
Then there are all those employees in the Theatre industry that is making money off this movie...who will give a portion to need...
I guess I am saying this is not 600 million thrown away frivolously..it's a jobs generating industry..

At least the movie is really good. I saw it on Sunday and loved the back-to-the-original-3 retro style with real scale models, minimalistic use of computer animations, gorgeous landscapes and in general, stunning visuals. The storyline was okay.

The money doesn't go sit in a vault somewhere, nor is it sent to kingdoms on other planets. Although some will go to rich producers and stars, most of it goes to working people to help them and their families and keep them out of poverty.

You would think all these wealthy bleeding hearts out here would consider something like that since they are for the less fortunate and saving the planet
They want high taxes for everyone else while they do their business transactions overseas
Al Gore said CA was going under water bcz of rising ocean waters due to global warming. Then he turns around and buys a massive mansion right on the ocean near LA
What am I missing ? The rules only apply to some?
