It could have been a self destruct mechanism once the balloon went into descent.

I'm sure we'll get a story in due time.

The balloon could be Russian (Chinese is a cover up) and the payload may contain a EMP weapon or a biological weapon. The pentagon would never tell us the truth anyways. That could be the reason why they refuse to shoot it down. The phony excuse that it would cause "falling debris" if shot down is nothing more than another government lie. Sources?

US shoots down Chinese spy balloon off East Coast

Live updates: US shoots down Chinese spy balloon off East Coast

The US military has shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon after it drifted off the East Coast near the Carolinas, the Pentagon confirms.

President Joe Biden said the mission was a success, and that he ordered the military to shoot it down "as soon as possible" when he was briefed about the balloon Wednesday.

It was first spotted over the continental US several days ago, according to the Pentagon, but officials deemed it too dangerous to shoot down over land.

US officials say the balloon was being used for surveillance, rejecting China's claim that it was a civilian research aircraft. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed a trip to China in response to the sightings.

Thanks for the update. I guess that blows my "so called" opinion at of the water.

That's the story, it may not be the truth. The thing that sticks out to me is it was reportedly "shot down" after its mission was complete, traversing the USA, all the while sending data it needed to collect.

All the sensitive military and silo bases data was already recorded and sent back to the enemy before the balloon was shot down.
Didn't Biden say last Wednesday to shoot it down ASAP? Yet they waited four days to destroy it.
This thing could have been shot down in the unpopulated areas of Alaska or Canada way before it reached our Air Force and Military complexes in which there was given time to transfer sensitive data back to enemy headquarters abroad. The delay to shoot it down cost us severely. The damaged has already been done.

Yep. The Chinese mission was accomplished, shooting it down on live TV was just theatre.
