100 Years Ago: New Electrical Home a big hit in Greeley – Greeley Tribune

100 Years Ago, for the second week of January 1923, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

    • The new Electrical Home at 1930 11th, has been a big hit. In two days, 1,911 visitors visited the house, learning how electricity can be used in the home, as part of today's modern features.

    • A former Greeley resident, B.F. Nichols, was arrested in Denver for similar crimes he committed in Greeley, He was arrested a year ago for peddling booze, and moved to Denver. This week, he was arrested for operating the largest illegal distillery in the history of Denver. He was brewing the illegal booze in a home and selling it to the Country Club members in the Denver area.

    • A Greeley man, driving his auto on a Loveland lake, said he lost the vehicle when it sank in the ice. However, last week, a Loveland firefighter, pulled a large pike fish out of the lake and found several of the auto parts in the fish's stomach. It is believed the fish ate part of the missing auto.

    • Windstorms in Weld County have brought many problems. Drivers coming to Greeley from the north parts of the county reported many autos with roofs blown off, windshields shattered, and autos even blown over on their tops. The sheriff's office closed many roads until the winds stopped.

    • The Greeley Fire Department has requested the city council to help pay for 1,000 feet of new fire hoses that are badly needed. Recent fires have damaged the fire hoses they now have, and now they have to get too close to the fires because the hoses are half the normal length. New hoses would cost from $1,000 to $1,500.

    • School bus statistics were released this week for all of the schools in Weld county. They showed the average salary for bus drivers is $36.75 per month. They varied from Windsor, which paid the lowest, at $20 per month to Platteville, which averages $60 per month. Gasoline prices for the buses also varied, from 18 cents per gallon in Fort Lupton and New Rayner, to the highest, 25 cents per gallon in Grover.

    • Training rules have been filed for the Ault basketball team: tobacco is prohibited; bedtime is 10 p.m., with 9 p.m. on the nights before games; eat regular meals at regular mealtimes, and candy, desserts and pies are not to be eaten.

    — 100 Years Ago is taken from the original pages of the Greeley Tribune, the Weld County Republican, and when they merged, the Greeley Tribune-Republican...

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)
