Most people don't like to watch "Bible-based" movies and TV shows around me because I have this habit of saying things like, "That's not in the Bible," "Do the people that make these movies know Scripture," "this is trash." My poor family was really subjected to this when that "Prince of Egypt" animated movie came out in the 90s.
I'm kinda the same way but I'm surprised I do enjoy The Chosen. I realize that to flesh a story out you have to take some creative license because the Bible doesn't give us that much detail. Some they flesh out a little too much and I'm like 'get on with it' lol.

One thing they did I really liked, and it was right along with a revelation I had when I was meditating through John where Jesus said to Nathaniel 'I saw you under the fig tree' and that was enough for Nathaniel to believe Jesus was the Messiah. I saw that something had to be ocurring with Nathaniel under that fig tree that was pretty significant for Nathaniel to have that reaction. So in The Chosen they created a back story of Nathaniel being an architect and building buildings but one of them had collapsed and now his carrer was ruined. He was sitting under the fig tree with his architect drawing book in despair and crying out to God and then burning it. So when he came to Jesus and Jesus said that to him, that made a believer out of him. As I said I had already seen by revelation that there had to be something significant happening under the fig tree for Nathaniel to have that reaction so I though that was cool.

And there are some moments that I think are awesome. Like the preview of the current season where a pharisee says to Jesus something like that he was violating the law and Jesus looks at him and says very seriously, "I AM THE LAW!" Gave me chills.

But so far no backing down that I've noticed.

I will give it a try based on your input. I have no problems with artistic license if it does not deviate from the factual Biblical accounts. License only upsets me when they stray from or change what actually happened in Scripture.

Well, who is the actor playing Jesus? Clint Eastwood?

Well there is some adding of details since there aren't any. But give it a chance. Don't just watch one. And it's a slow simmer. Takes awhile for some things to begin to happen. And we're used to reading those Bible stories one right after the other and they didn't occur that quick in real time obviously. So it reflects that. Its not a movie where they can do everything in two hours so it keeps moving along with the miracles and things. They have to spread all this out over 7 seasons.

And there's a few things I don't like the way they portray, but not deal killers. For instance Jesus' sermon on the mount is a big deal and a defining moment in His ministry in the series so it shows Jesus actually constructing the sermon over a few episodes as opposed to just teaching and preaching extemporaneously like I imagine him doing. So you have to get over stuff like that. Like I said, I'm like you are too so I just suppress it some so that I enjoy it more.

That bothered me. Jesus said He only speaks what He hears the Father saying. So yeah I had to get past that.

Okay, came home from Bible study and Praise and worship practice last night, sat down and decided to watch the first episode.

Nicodemus unsuccessfully trying to cast out a demon, Matthew collecting taxes, Peter getting into fist-fights with his brothers-in-law and scheming, with protests from Andrew, Mary Magdalene walking around with demonic emotional issues, and we finally meet our Lord Jesus at the end who quotes Scripture to Mary and hugged her.

IT WAS ALL SO SLOW AND IT DRAGGED ON TOO MUCH. Although my wife did find it interesting, I asked her this morning if she wanted to watch the second episode and she declined.

On the positive side, though they took a lot of dramatic license with these "back stories," I did not see anything yet that appeared to contradict the Biblical narrative. The intro to the shw itself stated that they intended to stay true to the Bible and urged its audience to read the gospels.

I may watch more later but in this social media age, you got to have a faster pacing in your story.

Nah. It's your gifting, personality and expectations. This is a story. Drama. I'm adult ADD. In some places I love being ADD and is a strength. I can watch this because of an abstract/artistic brain wiring.

    Try another episode.

This Sunday they are airing the season 3 premier. I'll be watching.

That's the main thing for me too. But I just worked my way through it. We're so used to reading these stories one after another in the Bible that when they develop them further it can really drag. But keep watching, it's really good. You have to give yourself a few episodes.

I was disappointed at the slow pace of the first couple of episodes too, but I hung in there, and it really grew on me...

Finished the First Season but have not been able to find it for *FREE* anywhere on TV - I watched it on TV, but we cut the cord with Verizon FIOS, and only use them for Wi-Fi/Internet - We now use Sling TV and the Amazon Fire Stick.

Haven't found it listed on either of those carriers.

Edited to Add: I thought someone said it was available on YouTube (?) - However, I prefer to watch movies on a bigger screen than my laptop.
