100 Years Ago, for the second week of May 1922, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:
A Greeley man with amnesia was located in Denver, but he couldn't remember his name or where he lived. He finally came to know his name, and that his son lives in Greeley. The man said he was recently separated from his wife, and the anguish caused the amnesia.
The Greeley Chamber of Commerce has decided not to support a city fireworks celebration this July 4th. They will instead allow Fort Collins to put on a display, and there will be a fee to watch the fireworks up close. The fee will go toward paying for a new hospital in Fort Collins.
Two accidents occurred in the new sewer trench being dug in Greeley. The first was when a plow crashed through the water main and the workers were drenched with water. The second was Monday when the gas line was severed and the workers were partially overcome with gas before they could escape.
The largest moonshine plant in Weld County history was seized this week by federal agents. Two Denver men were arrested. Confiscated were 5,000 gallons of sugar mash, two large stills and 65 gallons of whiskey.
The new Greeley Children's Library is open and is said to be one of the best in the state. There are 4,500 books in the library and more than 2,800 children have visited the library.
For those who want to visit Denver in the evenings, there is now a Tour 8 bus that leaves Greeley at 7 p.m. and returns at midnight. The cost of a ride is $4 for the round trip.
A Fort Collins woman, armed with a gun was caught searching through Weld County for her husband so she could shoot him. She told police he was paying too much attention to another woman. Her gun was taken, and she may be charged, police said.
The Weld County Poultry Demonstrators announced that the average egg production in Weld County was 19.06 eggs per hen for the month of April. Eggs sold for 20 cents per dozen.
A local cattle buyer was fined $10 for allowing his cattle to run free in Greeley. One man complained that his yard and garden were damaged by the cattle, and it will cost him $90 to repair things.
The price of gasoline in Greeley has increased by 3 cents. The price of gasoline is now 29 cents per gallon.
