100 Years Ago, for the second week of April 1922, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:


On the ranch of State Legislator John Hicks, a cave was found and inside were several kegs of "poor" moonshine and parts of a still. There was no evidence that Hicks owned the items, so he wasn't arrested

If you dip your shoes in melted wax every month, not only will the shoes be waterproofed, they will last twice as long.

The Talking Machine has proven to be special in terms of playing music. Several of the machines have been sent to schools with records of music for the children to listen to.

A group of farmers and two Weld County Commissioners declared that land in the northeast corner of Weld County is unfit for farming and should be used as low-grade grazing land. Farmers who want to raise crops on the land are fighting the others.

The Barnesville Ladies' Club met to discuss important matters in the town. The most important item, they said was starting a sewing club for children in the town.

Also in Barnesville, a large group of chicken farmers met at the school and were enthusiastic about Charles Plumb's speech entitled "Chicken Culling."

A quarantine has been lifted on a family that had scarlet fever in two family members. The children, who were not sick, had to stay home for four weeks until the quarantine was lifted.

Ed Schwartz butchered a hog last Wednesday for Earl Johnson.

During a school bond election in Pierce, one of the men opposed to the bond was driving voters to the school to vote. He was arrested when one of the voters saw a gun sticking out from the driver's pocket. He told police he was not using the gun to intimidate voters.

Chicken thieves have been busy in Evans. Charles Dwiggens reported the thieves stole 50 of his chickens from his farm.

Johnstown's School Board, following complaints of parents, voted to increase the school lunch time from 30 minutes to 45 minutes, giving students more time to masticate their noon-day meal.

A Greeley motorcycle policeman was trying out a new bike at high speeds when the rear tire blew out and he skidded about 200 feet before stopping. The metal on the ground caused sparks, which set fire to his pants. His pants were burned off, but he wasn't injured.
