Bill Gates: Once the omicron variant passes, Covid will be more like the seasonal flu

Covid's omicron variant is currently tearing through the U.S. and the rest of the world at a record-breaking pace — but Bill Gates sees hope on the horizon.

Once the current surge abates, countries can expect to see "far fewer cases" through the rest of 2022, Gates wrote on Tuesday during a Twitter Q&A with Devi Sridhar, chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh. Once that happens, Gates continued, Covid can most likely "be treated more like seasonal flu."

The Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist — an outspoken public health advocate who regularly weighs in on the Covid pandemic response — isn't the first to make similar predictions. Some experts say omicron's rapid spread, while certainly dangerous, could imbue enough people with so-called "natural immunity" to help steer the Covid pandemic into a much less severe "endemic" phase.

Gates touched on that scenario in his Twitter Q&A, predicting that "omicron will create a lot of immunity, at least for the next year." The timing matters: If enough of the country can maintain some level of simultaneous immunity against Covid, whether vaccine-induced or otherwise, the virus' circulation could slow down long enough to transition the pandemic into that endemic phase.

Once Covid eventually becomes endemic, Gates added, "we may have to take yearly shots for Covid for some time" — much like annual flu shots...

Have there been any deaths from this so-called omicron "variant?"

The MSM uses words like "raging" and "tearing through" ... so frustrating.

Viruses mutate and weaken. That's science. They (MSM, leaders like Gates, Fauci, etc) would have us belief that viruses mutate and grow stronger and will KILL us all.

I believe they prolonged this virus by isolating us, locking us down, closing places of business where people congregate (so we avoid developing herd immunity), restricting and outlawing the use of lifesaving treatments, etc. The whole narrative around covid is political and financial, and has very little to do with science.

I've just been living my life since April 2020. Yes, things had to change when businesses had to close - like I cooked more than I had in years. But overall, I've been living my life.

The numbers are seriously jumping here. Either you had it or just getting over it. Our pastor is down with it so I'm preaching this Sunday. He was on ivermectin so the worst of it cleared out in 24hrs.

Have you noticed though, at least in American media, that they are every so slightly starting to play down the pandemic, just in time for the mid term election cycle? Hmmmmmm.....

It seems to be raging here. I don't watch the numbers much but we have increased from about 3,000+ new cases daily to a total for the last 24 hours 10,500+. Most think they have a cold or allergies.

I don't follow the death numbers but I don't think it has risen much.

well, Omicron spreads faster and the incubation time is shorter than in earlier Corona virus,
but science based researches show that it is less "dangerous", means a lower percentage die or get severe sick.
    This is the positiv side.
But it also causes Covid-19 for vaccinated people. Worldwide statistics show, that these have a milder form and are seldom in Intensive Care, most not even n the hospital.
Also for people without a vaccination it is less severe, but can be deadly are cause long time effects.

The main problem now is, that because it spreads so easily and fast, many people are sick at the same time and miss work. This is a problem for many companies.

I would say, the word "raging" is in the moment not wrong because never before so many were sick at the same time, but not in the sense of many people dying.
