So, I Finally Got COVID - The Stream

As happened to many other Americans during the Christmas break, both my wife and I came down with COVID, marking the first time either of us contracted it. (I write this article on day 9, and we are on the mend, albeit slowly.)

Both of us have been far sicker at other times in our lives, and compared to how others have suffered over these last two years, our cases appear to be fairly mild. At the same time, this is the longest I have been sick since 2014 (when I made a radical lifestyle change), and there's something about this virus that feels "demonic." If you've had it yourself, you probably agree.

Here, then, are some practical thoughts and reflections.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...

I had meant to post that the past couple of days, and when I saw it before I could see who posted, I thought, 'Did I do that and forgot?'

I do know of a couple of people who have had it twice. They all say it's much milder than the first go-round. I think DH had it about a month ago. Came down with a nasty cold that last over a week - very unusual for him. But we don't buy into the narrative of testing every time we get sick so we won't know. We'll treat this like every other coronavirus/cold/flu thing. Rest, treat the symptoms, and then rebuild your strength when recovered.

Just a thought. Several years ago, my son came down with the flu shortly after Christmas. In January, my grandfather was hospitalized with pneumonia. He recovered, but it became the family joke that my son almost killed pop pop. No one would have seriously suggested it was my son's fault had my grandfather not recovered. I can't think of anything that would be more cruel, yet it's what people say now. I know I'm stating the obvious, but we really live in a nasty generation.
