100 Years Ago: 20 boys arrested for Halloween night vandalism, destroying streetcar – Greeley Tribune
100 Years Ago, for the end of October and beginning of November 1921, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper.
» Seven men from Fort Lupton, two from Brighton and six more from various towns in Weld County were all charged with theft in connection with the night-time burglary of the Cable Bros. Mercantile Shop in Windsor. All of the stolen goods have been recovered.
» A local painter put on a Halloween celebration last night at the Boyd Cigar Store in Greeley. He went in, bought some cigars, then started shouting and making loud noises. When they tried to escort him out, he kicked a hole in the glass door. He was taken to jail. He had to return later to the shop to get his teeth, which he left on a counter.
» In a night of Halloween fun at the Teachers College, the student had a dunking contest, in which they had to dunk their heads in bathtubs full of water, take out the apples with their teeth. They also had a Horror Tour across campus, where they found decapitated people and the bones of departed professors. All were fake, of course.
» Local farmer Fred Steele was caught speeding in Greeley this week and had to pay $14 in fines. Police said he was caught speeding at 25 mph in his auto.
» More than 1,000 novels are written every year in America. Ten are read. Two are remembered.
» The hobos made merry at Seely's Lake Thursday afternoon. Actually, the "hobos" are members of the Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority. They had a picnic at the lake, followed by an afternoon of dancing.
» COLUMN: "What a peaceful old world this would be if all the stubborn and avaricious people were eliminated, leaving only us."

» Twenty boys, ranging in age of 12 to 20, were arrested on Halloween night for acts of vandalism and for destroying a streetcar. The boys may go to jail, or their parents could pay heavy fines. Several boys admitted to derailing the streetcar.
