100 Years Ago: Thieves use drill to rob Kersey Bank – Greeley Tribune
100 Years Ago, for the first week of October 1921, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:
At the Kersey Bank, thieves drilled through the back wall of the safety deposit boxes and stole the contents. Seventy-five boxes were looted, according to Kersey police.
ADVERTISEMENT: "South Greeley F & F Store: Good ignite coal, $6.35 per ton delivered; new prairie Hay, $20 per ton; chopped barley, $1.15 for 100 pounds."
Hundreds of women will get a national washday vacation next week when Maytag salesmen will come to houses with a washer and do the family washing for free. In Greeley, the Lee Bros. Cash Hardware will be doing the washing.
A moonshine recipe was found at the Weld County Sheriff's Office this week, and no one knows who put it there. But the strange recipe includes: "Chase a bullfrog for two miles and gather up the hops; to the hops add 10 gallons of bark extract, one pound of shellac and two bars of homemade soap; add a grasshopper to each bottle to give it a kick."
A person set fire to his weed field in Greeley after dark Wednesday night at 5th Street and 4th Avenue. Neighbors were upset because the wind was blowing and they were afraid the fire would spread to their homes. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department.
Frank Goodwin of Greeley was driving his motorcar home from Estes Park Friday when he drove into the Big Thompson River — twice. He was crossing a bridge when he lost control of the auto and went into the river. He was able to drive it out, and started down the road and ran into the river again. The steering gear was bent, and this time he needed help to get his auto out of the river.
The committee investigating the national activities of the Ku Klux Klan will report its findings to the U.S. Senate this week.

There is a $100 reward for the return of papers and documents stolen from 75 safety deposit boxes at the Kersey Bank earlier this week. Turn the papers into the bank, the Delue Detective Agency or the Weld County Sheriff for the reward.
