100 Years Ago, for the third week of June 1921, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

The trial of Chris Neuswanger, the accused murderer of Indian Smith, the hermit who lived along the Poudre River bottoms, is off to a slow start. Smith was not really an Indian, but called himself that because he hoped to receive government money.

Four-year-old Edward Roth of Grover disappeared from the family home during the night, and searchers couldn't find him. They had a hard all-night rain, and little Edward was found the next morning, cold and wet, but unharmed otherwise.

The Weld County Wild West Show in September will be offering $2,500 in total prize money to the best calf-ropers, bucking bronco riders and horse relay racers, plus several other contests. The large amount of prize money will attract the best cowboys and cowgirls in Colorado.

City Court was busy this week with several cases, including a local florist who was fined $5 for pasturing his goat in a downtown parking lot. Another resident was fined $5 for sprinkling his lawn at the wrong time. A boy who was charged with riding his bicycle on the city sidewalks was issued a warning by the court. The only time bicycles can be ridden on city sidewalks is when the children are delivering newspapers.
