100 Years Ago: Thief eats lunch, steals outfit; county fair expected to be ‘genuine ripsnorter’ – Greeley Tribune

100 Years Ago, for the second week of May 1921, from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper:

A thief broke into the Swift Store in Windsor, ate a hearty lunch, then took a complete outfit of men's clothing. The same night, someone broke into the McCormick Mercantile Co. in Mead and thoroughly rummaged through the business files and papers. No money or merchandise was taken.

According to managers of the Weld County Fair, the show coming to Greeley will be "a genuine ripsnorter, humdinger and stemwinder wild west show."

The high cost of transportation has caused the dumping of 50,000 bags of onions in the river at Delta. The sacks containing the onions were worth more than the onions, farmers said.

Tribune-Republican employee Wallace Seeburg was injured yesterday when he was run over by his own auto. He was driving with friends when his auto began making odd noises. He asked a friend to take the wheel while he stood on the side of the auto to find the reason for the noise. When they had to make a turn, he fell to the street and the machine ran over his shoulders. He had cuts and broken bones.

There was a heavy hail storm in Estes Park yesterday. The roar of the storm was so great, it made it impossible to use telephones in the park.

An auto mechanic-garage owner was tired of seeing his "Entrance" and "Exit" signs over his doors, so he changed the signs to "Intake" and "Exhaust."

Men of Greeley! Boyd's Cigar Store No. 7 is opening a recreation parlor on Saturday for every man in Greeley. It will have a comfort station, a recreation room a rest room and a cigar room. All men are invited!

Those Coloradans who go across the state line to Wyoming to fish now must have a Wyoming fishing license. They can be purchased in Wyoming or at the Weld County Clerk's Office for $2. Remember the Wyoming fishing limits are 30 trout or 15 pounds of trout.

Tribune-Republican reporter Josephine LaFollette took an aeroplane ride with pilot Eddie Brookes this week and wrote "It was like a nightmare of falling from the Daniels & Fisher Tower in Denver and you just keep falling faster and faster, but you never hit the ground."

    — 100 Years Ago is taken from the original pages of the Greeley Tribune, the Weld County Republican, and when they merged, the Greeley Tribune-Republican.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

This one is a headscratcher if you don't recall cars having "running boards". That must have hurt a little.
