This Is The Day - Song

Recently found out that the writer of this song passed away January 2018. His name is Les Garrett.

It was one of the biggest Christian chorus in the 1970's and early 80's and sung internationally. He wrote it in 1967.

At Bible College in 1986 Les was one of our lecturers and he also pastored a church in our city.
He told us about writing this song and did not have any visions of it becoming a huge hit. His desire was to praise the Lord and was thankful people were blessed by it.

Back then things were more simple and when he wrote it he never put it under copyright as he just wanted to bless the church.

Sadly greed is strong in some and discovered that someone in America had claimed ownership rights and was getting royalties....it's lying and stealing in reality.

When he found out he was disappointed that this person would do this and wrote to the copyright authority and proved he was the writer.

He ended up getting yearly royalties as it was used in albums and sung in many places.

It was so popular that Keith Green recorded it in one of his albums.

Interesting. We sang the lights out of that diddy. I mean to the point of rolling eyes and muttering, “here we go again”.

Know what you mean...it went into overkill but was such a catchy tune

A similar thing happened with another praise/worship song, "You Deserve the Glory", it was written in the 80's by a Swedish woman, Eva-Lena Hellmark. People sang that song for years but nobody knew who wrote it--Terry MacAlmon recorded it back in the 90's and some years later he found out who wrote it and made sure she got royalties from his album.

As P & W Leader at our Church, I still sing it from time to time.

Glad to see him honour that lady...a good testimony of generosity
