Didn't the Word say to sing a new song unto the Lord???

There is many many Christians musicians of every genre singing new songs unto the Lord... why not sing with them?
Singing secular music to the Lord reminds my of the guy that was stealing money from a business and when he got arrested for it, he told his boss (who was a Christian) he should not be arrested because he paid tiithes to his church on all the money he stole!
The Lord does not appreciate that sort of thing.
I was told by someone who knew the old hymns very well (and had a Masters in Music) that many of them were bar/pub songs that hymn writers wrote new words to sing them in church. That way people would be able to sing them acapella at the time.
If you don't think that God can redeem music, You're quite wrong.

Man, I remember some good times with the Harfouche's in some of their meetings at the big WOF Church here in Richmond. They used to do, "I feel Good" by James Brown, but change the lyrics to glorify Jesus. They did that with certain songs and it was fantastic! Loved it!

Someone should have told king David that this was wrong. Look at Psalm 9: To the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Death of the Son". Or how about Psalm 22: To the chief musician. Set to "The Deer of the Dawn."
Music in itself is not evil. God created it. Has the devil used it for his purposes? Absolutely! But that doesn't mean that we cannot take it back from the enemy's camp.
Don't look Ethel!

Sorry Farm Truck, but you are mistaken. Music is God's creation. There is good music, there is neutral music and yes there is bad music. Some Christian music can be used for teaching. It is not all praise or worship. Some can be used to reach out to the lost and get their attention so that you can preach the gospel to them. I have even written a couple of Christian blues songs that contain the gospel message in them. It is all in how the music is purposed that makes it what it is.
Your mindset seems to say that ALL secular music was offered to idols. This is not true.
God has given us music as a gift. When it gets stolen by the other team, there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking it back and using it for the glory of God.
Not sure why guys, but when the editor posts these, the chords are all scrunched together. If anyone would like a Word Doc of any of these just send me a message.
God bless!

Oh yeah, and by the way, Mark Farner lives up here in beautiful northern lower Michigan. Closer to Firebrand than me actually.

As a general rule, I don't change the lyrics, unless I don't know them correctly! lol.. Then I just make up my own.. and, or course, those are much better.
Having said that, I know some, not sure how many, of the old hymns started out as bar tunes.
Hey, if God can take a sinner like me and give me new life, He can do it to any music too!
(btw, not a fan of karaoke in weddings.. really, folks, just stop it.)

Loving your posts in this thread Zeke!
Do you have any videos or audios of yourself singing the new versions of these songs?
