So why do they call it a "black" box? Now I simply think it's dumb that they call an orange box black.
Well 'black box' is a term for a closed system in any area. Like if you're a stock trader, and you use a 'black box' system for trading, you can't make any changes to it, it's closed, etc. So I believe it's used in that regard. It's a 'black box', not in color, but function. It's a closed box that the user cannot make any changes to, do anything with. Only those that created it.

Here, I Googled it. This explains it clearer than I can:

In science, computing, and engineering, a black box is a device, system or object which can be viewed in terms of its inputs and outputs (or transfer characteristics), without any knowledge of its internal workings. Its implementation is "opaque" (black). Almost anything might be referred to as a black box: a transistor, algorithm, or the human brain.

    Make sense?

I knew that the Hundred Years War lasted longer than 100 years, but I didn't know how many years it actually lasted.

As for the others; I only knew about the black box.

I knew that one too, interesting trivia because the canary was named after the islands and not the other way around:

You can avoid major, expensive repair costs with an extended service plan for your Hummer. Many vehicle repairs can cost thousands of dollars in unexpected expense, now may be the time to consider an extended service plan for your vehicle.
