Thread: Pre-Diabetes or Diabetic?

    Pre-Diabetes or Diabetic?

I was wondering if any one here has diabetes or has received a pre-diabetes test result from their doctor.

I was told that I am pre-diabetic at the end of May. Since then I have completely changed my diet etc. Now I have two strikes not in my favor. As Diabetes does run in my family (although no one is currently taking insulin etc) its just something that I know that does run in my family. And two, I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my first child. I controlled sugar levels with my diet and was never insulin dependent. So that was great.

Since June, I have lost about 15 pounds from simply changing my diet and be more aware of what I eat. That seems fast to me. Is that normal weight loss for some one in my situation?

What other ideas do you have in keeping sugar levels more to the normal side?

    Thank you!

15 pounds in 3-4 months is completely normal.

I've been type 2 for over 10 years. It runs in my family. I keep pretty well under control. When I was first diagnosed, I lost a lot of weight fast, so your loss sounds similar. I take an oral medication. Over the years, my weight has yo-yo'd up and down 2 or 3 times.

Proper diet and exercise are your best friends.

One fasting blood test I had was in the prediabetic range, but I lost some weight after that and have had completely normal blood tests since then. Like you, type 2 runs in my family and I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy. I think that as long as I keep my weight under strict control, I'm unlikely to develop it. And yes, 15 pounds in that time frame is pretty normal.

Thank you all for your replies. I was getting a bit worried. Good to know I am on the right path, so to speak.

I will have a new AC1 test in a few months to see where my range is. I think I am doing better and still learning what my body can handle, in the way of carbs, etc., I do test my blood about once a month for a week, just to see what my ranges are. And mostly they are good. I will be contacting a gym to see about a membership. If it's to pricey I will ask my son to add me to his plan, and just pay him. But I will add that to my daily routine. The plan is going after work, stay for about an hour then head home. Thankfully it's close to my house.

Thank you all again. Have a great day!

ok, I am disappointed. Had my recheck done, and even though I have lost a total of 20 pounds, my A1C is at 6.2. over the "normal" range. The normal range is 4.6 to 6.0 so I am a little over. Why am I continuing to lose weight if my sugar levels are "too high". I am really confused. He did all kinds of other tests, but they all are normal.

any ideas thrown my way would be most appreciated. thank you!

I have no idea what your weight is by now but maybe you should just keep going ?

As they say on tv, "...when diet and exercise alone are not enough...''. Blood sugar is a complex issue.

I've been doing some of the suplements that help too.

I think I found some in Prescription for Nutritional Healing..
