I was looking at the customer reviews and this is what the second one said:

    Title:Where Most Use an Antacid
    Date December 29, 2014
" My family considers me a health food nut, but several family members have taken my advice in using Betaine HCL with great results. I take Betaine HCL anytime my stomach feels bloated, especially after a large meal just before going to bed. What many consider to be an "acid" stomach causing heartburn and bloat is actually too little digestive enzymes and lack of digesting acids. All I can say is try it and you may be very pleasantly surprised. It works for me. It also works for some who would normally grab an antacid but now swear by Betaine HCL with Pepsin. "
    Thanks, Krys.

Cold turkey, the pills weren't really working anyway. I also did some acidophilus, the idea being to restore everything back to normal levels, pH and enzymes.

One underlying theory here is that the acetic acid in vinegar lowers stomach acidity (increases its pH) since acetic acid is a weaker acid than hydrochloric acid. It is also believed that vinegar (acetic acid along with its acetate salt) may help buffer and maintain stomach acid at a pH level of about 3.0. In this milder acidic environment, the stomach can still efficiently digest food but it causes less problems with the esophagus and thus less heartburn.

Another theory contends that the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a pH sensitive valve.
When there is food in the stomach with insufficient acid present, the LES valve can periodically flop open, causing acid reflux.
Too little acid in the stomach may be caused by different factors, but one of the most common one is that, as we grow older, our body does not produce as much stomach acid.
As a result the LES valve, sensing less acid, periodically flops open causing acid reflux.
Drinking apple cider vinegar supplies the LES valve with the acidity it needs to function properly.

Yeah, as others have said, apple cider vinegar is very helpful for a lot of people, with baking soda.

You may want to avoid the offending foods for a season, then try to re-introduce them with the digestive enzymes a coupla months later.

Also, have you done "gut repair" (drinking aloe and other things that plug the thinning colon wall)?

That's one of the problems. I don't have any "offending foods" ... I can get heartburn just drinking city water. I live on an acreage with plain well water, but quite hard with lime, calcium and some rust/iron.

I used to take aloe vera all the time and it helped some but nothing was completely effective. I didn't know it would repair the gut. I've been diagnosed with diverticulosis so maybe I should get back on it. I only took it for heartburn before.

As much as I don't like being on this drug, I have to say I enjoy not having heartburn after every meal.

I have to say, as soon I see the words, "Big Pharma" I ignore everything that comes after that. There are abuses in every industry, even the natural supplement industry is arguably more abusive because it is less regulated. I'm happy to hear about alternative therapies and living a more natural life, but the idea that "Big Pharma" and the medical establishment is hiding cures for cancer pisses me off to no end.

That being said, antacids have never been supposed to be more than occasional help for healing ulcers and getting things under control. People being on them for years is just insane.

Susan, I don't blame you for feeling the way you do because you work in the cancer industry. But I stand by everything I said. If you are genuinely open, I'm more than happy to provide you with the right information. But only if you are genuinely open. The information is not hidden...it is out there for the seeker of truth. There are safe, non-toxic, cancer-killing agents that big pharma has suppressed. This is easily proven and is a fact. Again, I can give you dozens of links to information. Only you can answer the question as to whether or not you are genuinely interested in knowing the truth.

Big Pharma is literally the most corrupt, irresponsible, wreckless, self-seeking, awful, greedy, terrible, industry in existence. It is dark, sinister, and kills people with toxic treatments, drugs, and is downright demonic. The natural substance industry is 1,000,000 times safer than the crap big pharma peddles.

I do not write that lightly.

It is a FACT that properly prescribed drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in the USA.

There is literally no comparison to the natural substance industry, and for you to use the word, "abusive" is astonishing. No one is being killed by milk thistle or echinacea.

Ohhh....you didn't say you had the diverticulosis diagnosis. That's a different animal altogether. Well, I bless your body with healing and restoration in Jesus' name!

    From your link:

Only one in seven patented drugs offers a clinical benefit over existing, safer, and cheaper alternatives–and only 1% can be said to be "life-saving." [http://www.pharmamyths.net/]
