    Treadmills and stuff

Got a treadmill installed in the smallest room on my upper floor this easter. It happily chugs along at 8 mph with good cushioning (it can do about 11). So now I don't need the gym anymore which is convenient. It's a Sole F63 and it retails for $999 over there. I can recommend it unless someone lives on a floor beneath you. Suitable for a house or a townhouse like mine. Just notice that the belt stands 8 inches above the floor and then there is the incline option. If your ceiling is low. Otherwise business is as usual with my workout regimen.

I wish I had an good gym grade elliptical for the house. Easier on my old knees and I would do the elliptical more. I need to get back to my HIIT training on the elliptical. I don't do much elliptical any more as I incorporate it into my strength training now. I only work out about 3 times a week now as I've gotten older. Quit the Crossfit (although I may go back to it at some point). Now I'll work out half my upper body one day, half the next. Don't really work out my legs right now since I've quit Crossfit. Always did a bunch of squats and deadlifts in Crossfit.

What I'll do is start up with a half mile warm up on the elliptical (takes about 5 minutes) then say work out my chest, but I don't slow down and rest, I keep the pace up because I'm doing the whole workout as kind of a cardio routine like we did in Crossfit. So the whole routine is designed to be cardio even though I am doing strength training too.

After the chest I'll go back and do another half mile on the elliptical. Then I'll go work out my shoulders, then work out my abs, again, resting as little as possible, then come back and do another half mile on the elliptical to top it off. That takes about 30 minutes or a little longer. Next day, or I'll skip a day and then go my chest, back, triceps and abs again in the same fashion. Just work out my upper body once a week total. Sometimes I make it back to the gym for the 3rd day and sometimes I don't. I'm not trying to win any contests, just trying to stay in decent shape for a 61 year old man. :)

Do some parallell squats at least once a week, that will keep your legs and spine in shape.

My workouts consist of four segments. Interval running, press, pull, legs. I do each about twice a week and legs once a week after a somewhat milder run.

Presses are bench presses, (hanging) dips and standing presses.
Pulls are one arm rows and (vertical) rack chins.
Legs are leg curls, wide stance front squats, pistol squats, one leg calf jumps.

The pistol squats are so tough on the core and hip flexors that I don't need any additional ab work, only some knees to the chest as a warm up. In addition I'll do some work on my hands and fingers using a softball. I figure that I've covered my entire body thoroughly with that program. Someone might add bicep curls to that but my pull is so strong that I don't need it.
