But that is my point, I'm not sprinting when I'm at a 180 heart rate. Sprinting for me is like 12+ mph.

Maybe you just need to slow down your pace a little bit, until you get in better shape. What was previously a fast jog to you may be a bit more than that now.

That's a good thing! The benefits of a high heart rate from exercise long after you exercise.

Maybe we just call that not being in as good shape as you thought you were?

Seriously, you worry too much about this stuff. Just go do it.

Colonel, I remember this from years ago with a baseball player, Steve Carlton with the Phillies I believe it was (I'll see if I can find a story on it), but it was something specially designed to get his heart rate up way above what you would normally do. I'm thinking it was maybe in the 200s. But it was done on purpose for the fitness aspect of it. Seems it may actually involved some kind of massage.

That sounds dangerous. I've always had an above average max heart rate. I measured it to 225 after a max run when I was 17, it must have been higher than that at the end of the run, probably over 230. It is quite possible that Lista's is above average too so perceived effort is what matters. If she can jog at 170 heart rate for a while without getting heavy legs from lactic acid and without heaving for breath then she should be okay with that.

oh my word....hear what I'm saying. The heart rate is because of the adrenal gland issue:

"acute adrenal deficiency, which often results in rapid heart beat, breathing problems and extreme tiredness" link

This isn't about me being in shape or not being in shape. The weight gain, the increased heart rate, the fatigue...ALL of it is due to my hormones being out of whack.

Okay. But I just don't see how getting a heart rate of 171 from some fast jogging is out of the ordinary, in and of itself.

In and of itself, if you're out of shape, and haven't been exercising would NOT be out of the ordinary.
