The last one I got was probably 25 years ago and the emergency room doctor told me to never get another one. My arm swelled with a fever and I got a knot under my arm, so I always tell my primary care doctor that I am allergic to whatever is in a tetanus shot. I know this is a rare instance but I don't know what I would do if I really needed a tetanus shot - don't know if there is an alternate medicine or not.
LOL...thanks Susan. Since two of my favorite hobbies, gardening and metal detecting, involve playing in the dirt I decided to take your advice.
HEAVEN, you're supposed to have a booster every 10 years and one of the reasons I was hesitating was because when I had my last one 14 years ago not only was there was some tenderness and swelling at the injection site but I also had some joint pain that lasted a few days.
But I was talking to a friend of mine who had one last year and they said the shots seem to be different now, no injection pain and less side effects than the older version, what if anything changed tho, I'm not sure.
I will say that the actual injection was painless this time, only some very minor discomfort and no side effects at all so far, not even a smidgen of tenderness at the injection site.
My dr. told me once that getting a tetanus shot too often results in some kind of toxicity which is not particularly desirable, either. I've never done any research on it and can't remember when my last one was. I don't know that I'd get one routinely, but if I stepped on a rusty nail, I probably would.

On FB, I tend to post a lot of anti-vaccination stuff, but what my point is there, is that vaccinations are a multi million dollar industry for big Pharma and there are FAR too many vaccines being stuffed down people's throats with scare tactics.
If people simply got enough vitamin D3, in a form the body can actually use, the "need" for flu shots would virtually disappear, but so would the profits. But they'd rather scare ppl and tell them how toxic "too much" vit D3 is, rather than how bad the flu shot is.
And the amount of vaccines they give babies and children now... wow.
I understand that the original vaccinations that we got as kids, (and I'm talking 50 yrs ago) were the basic diseases that were killing children. But now they want to vaccinate for hang nails... some diseases are better off just running their course.
But obviously, that's just MHO.

A lot of the reasons for the terrible flu epidemics and other diseases was things like a lack of nutrition and vitamin D3 especially. What we now know about the human immune system is literally light years from where we started when big medical schools became a big cabal with the FDA and big pharma in the 1930s. My goodness.....you'd think doctors would be beating the door down to make sure their patients have adequate vitamin D3, but most don't even do that, and the DNA/RNA switches vitamin D3 turns on are CRITICAL to human immunity. Studies showed a great decline in these terrible epidemics as nutrition intake improved, but you'll never hear that from big pharma.

My last tetanus shot was in 2012 (I think)..I had been bitten by a dog.
