Thread: "Balance of Nature" inspired me...

    "Balance of Nature" inspired me...

...to eat more fruit and vegetables, like ALOT more fruits and vegetables. I see the ad constantly on Fox News for Balance of Nature supplements. They keep making the point over and over again how we don't eat enough fruits and vegetables and how this is a miracle for people who take it. Any maybe it is? But, I got to thinking, if we attempt to eat enough fruits and vegetables, we would not have enough room to eat all the junk that is normal in our diets. So, I'm setting out to eat the recommended daily allowances of a variety of fruits and vegetables (including starchy veggies), plus nuts and seeds during my eating window. I'm not going full on vegetarian, but I find that I don't eat meat now more than 2-3 times a week. Right now, I'm breaking my fast with blueberries, walnuts, flax, chia and hemp seeds and I find it really satisfying. This is a big change for me because I've never cared for vegetables, but now I really crave them. I'm hoping this will improve my health and stabilize my weight permanently.

Good for you!!! I've made a real attempt at this too. I thought it would be easier to do this summer for sure. I have eaten an apple a day for several years now. I try to eat at least two helpings of veggies with dinner. I've also tried adding greens to my shakes some but should do that more.
I eat a big salad mostly greens at lunch every day of the work week.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm a "Meat Lover," but I've made a concerted effort to eat more Fruit the last couple of weeks as well - I find that my "Sweets Cravings" have lessened.

I just went on a pretty strict low carb 3 weeks ago. About the only vegetable I am getting is lettuce in a salad. I mean I like vegetables, but I can take them or leave them. They are obviously better than the standard American diet. I definitely wouldn't cut down the meat to twice a week. You need that animal fat and animal protein I don't care what some say. But if you eat meat with plenty of vegetables you're gonna see the same difference. And try to throw in an egg a day. :)

You are right and don't get me wrong, I like meat. It's just hard to fit it in OMAD. That's a good idea about eggs. I am tracking my food only for the macros right now, I came up short so I need to think on that some more. I did eat salmon last night and I'll think about what I can have tonight. It's more planning and tweaking at this point.

edit: I started thinking about what gives me the biggest bang for my buck and I thought, Fried Rice! My DIL in Vietnamese and her parents make the best fried rice I've ever tasted. I thought, I could use riced cauliflower, then it hit m, Quinoa! (remember, I'm not doing low carb) So I found this recipe that looks good: Easy Quinoa Fried "Rice" with Egg (gluten-free) - My Eclectic Bites I'll put it in the rotation and report back!

I didn't see you were doing OMAD. I've done that many times. You sticking to a certain number of calories too? Keep it up!

I'm not "tracking calories" but I am tracking foods for macro purposes. I'm eating until I'm comfortable, then stop. Fasting has really helped that because when I close my window, I'm done, there is no "little cheat". I might look at the calories, but more as an average rather than worrying too much about day to day. I have a tendency for disordered eating, particularly bingeing. My goal is to eat intuitively, but first, I need to learn to listen to my body better. I am doing OMAD for now and might try a longer fast once a month to get the benefit of autophagy, but my ultimate goal for now is to fast 16:8 to maintain. That could change down the road as I do more research, but I consider IF a way of life at this point.
