Find out how much of the eclipse you'll see in your area
Just type your zip code in the yellow box:
https://www.vox.com/science-and-heal...nteractive-map
For me:
The eclipse will peak at 2:27:24 pm EDT, when the moon obscures 79.4% of the sun.

The eclipse will peak at 2:36:53 pm EDT, when the moon obscures 96.4% of the sun.
I can drive to northeast GA 129 miles or so and get 100%. But you would never get there because of the traffic. I bet there's a traffic jam for 10 or 20 miles around that corner of GA. It's just smaller roads up in that area. Very rural.

99.4 here. I have to go only 20 miles for 100%, but I'm not going to.

And the little yellow box doesn't work with Canadian postal codes.

The eclipse will peak at 1:09:04 pm CDT, when the moon obscures 88.4% of the sun.
I'd have to drive 224 miles NE for 100%. I'll probably either read or sleep through since I won't be purchasing the special glasses to look at it.

If I am up, I might peek out the window just to see how dark it gets. Won't be outside looking as I have seen eclipses before.

Just eyeballing a map, Idaho Falls is more or less straight south of me and appears to be in the line of the full eclipse. That means I'm about 1300Km (800M) north of the full eclipse. Another website tells me I'll get about 65% of the eclipse @about 11:20AM MDT.
Just as an interesting fact, Aug 21 is my mom's bd (she's passed) and my younger sister's 41st wedding anniversary.

Ya know, for an 80% eclipse it really didn't get that dark at all...most cloudy days are darker than this was.

Partial eclipses occur all the time and noone drives hundreds of miles to see one.
