Looking for a new email platform

With all that's happening with censorship by the Big Tech boys, I'm looking for a new email platform seeing that Apple/Google/Microsoft seem to own everything.

Currently researching Proton Mail and found this:

The developer behind secure email service ProtonMail today came out swinging against the way Apple allegedly uses its App Store to control access to iOS users and cut out competitors. The company is all but begging regulators to take stronger action.

"Apple has become a monopoly, crushing potential competitors with exploitative fees and conducting censorship on behalf of dictators," ProtonMail founder and CEO Andy Yen wrote in a company blog post. "We know this because we have quietly tolerated this exploitation for years."
We have tolerated the creep of exploitation, haven't we?

    Interesting...

A friend just emailed me with her *new* Proton email address - She said: "Just in case they shut us Christians down"

It's not just being shut down, but lack of freedom of speech. End to end encryption, if it works the way I think it does, means no one can read your email. I'm keeping my gmail for junk mail, but other stuff is moving to Protonmail.

Just an interesting sidenote. I was texting with a friend over FB Messenger, discussing the current political situation - nothing violent, and a warning pops up that said FB Messenger can "unsend" a message they deem inappropriate (or wording like that). I was shocked that Big Brother was eavesdropping in my conversation!

I've always made it a policy to never say anything in an email that I wouldn't say in a crowded room. I do realize that wouldn't work for everyone though.

This really isn't about integrity - it's about censorship. You might say something in a crowded room, but if Big Brother comes and pulls you out for saying it, and shuts you off from ever speaking again in that crowded room, well, that's different.

After that happened, I had a discussion with both of my adult children who live in another country. We talked about being cut off from communicating with each other, and what steps we could take to protect our family communication. ProtonMail was one of those steps for me. If they can ban conservative voices from various platforms, they can ban my email, and certainly any other thing. I know this sounds like paranoia, but for me, it isn't. It's wisdom to have alternative ways to communicate when it is very obvious media and communication is being controlled by leftists.

P.S. and don't think that we are "free" here on this forum. I can Google search anyone, any statement and find it easily and it will lead me right here, to this post.

I understand that. I wasn't speaking of integrity either. I don't function in the digital world with any expectation of privacy. Period. Neither do I live my life in fear of big brother.

Well, there are many issues that can be confused.

LFF does not sell your history, personal info, etc. - google, FB, Twitter all do, so you are the product with them, that is how they MAKE MONEY, by selling everything they know about you. LFF DOES NOT DO THAT.

Search engines do crawl the public content here, they do not crawl the private forums. So yes, any posts you make in the public forums are public, people that find the forum via search engines can read your public posts.

I don't really know what you mean by "and don't think that we are "free" here on this forum."?

    Can you expand on that?

I had that happen with something I was trying to send someone a couple months back.

FaceBook owns WhatsApp, too, don't they, and it's supposed to have end to end encryption, but, with FB being what it is, I don't trust it to be private. I use FB Messenger knowing that Zucker is reading.

I was watching a video last night and they said the 3 apps we should have if things go down are Signal, Telegram and CloutHub. I had the first 2, but downloaded and set up CloutHub and the first post that popped up there was one by DJT.

The Telegram app posted to all its users that it surpassed over 500MILLION users over the weekend. People are downloading it like crazy... I find the hard part with that one is finding the "Rooms" that the users access. I guess there's a list somewhere, I just haven't found it yet. Any rooms I belong to I have either been added by a friend or the links have been listed in other rooms.

Now, in saying that, I've heard Telegram is compromised, but I also heard Parler was compromised and we know what's happened to Parler, which tells me it wasn't. It was a trolling, trying to get people to stop signing up and using it.

So which ones are truly compromised, I have no idea how to actually find out.
