I started prepping in January. I saw what was happening in China. Scott was getting a lot of information from his Chinese friends in WeChat, and they had a harsh lockdown: locked in your apartment, can only go out every four days, have to have a temperature check. If you have a temp, then you can't go out.
Since then I've slowly been building up a supply of food items, cat food, toilet paper, etc. Remember late March/early April - virtually no canned goods, freezer section of the store was pretty sparse as well. And no paper goods to be found. The only thing that kept coming in was fresh produce, thank goodness.
I actually don't think this is a crazy way of living. My mother and grandmother always canned and made jam and had a freezer full of meat. I remember shelves in the basement full of canned tomatoes, corn, carrots, beans, peas, etc. even beef stew. To me, this isn't really new, except I bought a lot of items instead of canning them. And, I do intend to keep this up.
I had a small garden this past summer, and had a ton of squash (pureed and frozen), pumpkins, tomatoes (canned those), honeydew melons (made jam from the ones we couldn't eat fast enough). Today we got back from a trip to Tennessee (Smokies) and I went to the store bought pork shoulder roasts and other meats (on sale
) and put them through the food sealer and into the freezer. I don't expect violence in our area, (I did see posts that they are targeting Dearborn/Dearborn Heights
.) but there may be some disruption to the food supply chain.
