I'll go first since there's no one posting tonight.

    Locale SF Bay Area east
Crime rate / safety - Depends on area. My area is very good. Most of the bay is safe except east Oakland area (20min. Away. Very dangerous
    Politics not too good
Cost of living horrific. Taxes included
Cost of housing beyond imaginable- a nightmare
    Population over 8 million
Rural- suburban- urban - suburbs, close to urban
Climate : Mediterranean, mild, very good for the most part
    Terrain: mountainous, ocean, bays, vineyards
    Traffic: simply depressing

What you like/ dislike traffic, cost of living, housing, politics
Would you leave or are you a lifer: A lifer unless it falls into the ocean

Locale: Orange county Ca, Anaheim, specifically.

Crime rate / safety: Not too horrible.. we were broken into our business years ago one time.. and our house 2 times, in different cities.. but that's over a 40 yr period.

Politics: like the rest of CA, pretty hard left

Cost of living: Like the rest of CA, pretty outrageous.. but OC isn't as bad as some.

Cost of housing: in truth, if we sold and move out, we've never be able to buy back in CA. ever.

    Population: pretty diverse

    Rural- suburban- urban: suburban

Climate: are you kidding?!?!! That's part of why we're all here!

    Somewhat typical day.

Terrain: Some hillsides.. some valley.. some beach..

    Traffic: mostly awful..

What you like/ dislike: Like - Disneyland!! my girls are here dislike - the politics

Would you leave or are you a lifer: probably just stay to be near our girl.. but, we used to say once my Dad went to be with the Lord we'd think about going somewhere else. Not sure where though.

    Thanks Femme.

I just read the other day that OC (namely new port) has some of the highest real estate in the nation, even higher than Malibu!

You are right, if you aren't loaded, you're not getting Cali.

Crime rate / safety Not a lot of danger of drive by shootings (besides, chances are that I'm a better shot than the potential shooter anyway), but there are a couple of idiots who keep burglarizing the neighborhood every now and then. But they don't seem very skilled. You keep things locked up, you keep things.
Politics Like Pentacali and Femme, far FAR left. Hard to believe I work for the state government, much less that I've worked for it for almost 22 years now. The only way I can do it without being sick to my stomach is to be focused on the goal of providing the taxpayer with the services they've paid for (as much as I can in my meager position anyway)
Cost of living A bit cheaper here in the Valley than in the Bay Area or LA area, but still not cheap. Food and utilities I think are universal here in CA but real estate fluctuates depending on where you are.
Cost of housing I'm in a 5 bed 2 bath house that I bought in 2000 for 158k, which was a good price even for this area (family feud... brother and sister sold the house to me in a hurry to split the profits)... house assessed last year for $250k. Too big a home for me, but I "inherited" it from my last divorce and it's only 3 years from being paid off in full, so I'm here.
Population Started out at 5,800, now over 25,000
Rural- suburban- Neighborhood is now urban, but only technically. It's actually rural
Climate Pretty dry, usually hot, but now it's cold and we finally had a good rain (yay!!)
Terrain I live on the flood plains.... flat farmland, not a lot of hills, but the mountains and beach are less than 2 hours away
Traffic Horrible. Just horrible. Did I mention that the traffic is horrible?

What you like/ dislike I love the ethnic diversity. Literal melting pot. I also love that I can get practically any nationality of food under the sun here...
Would you leave or are you a lifer I WAS a lifer, but I think I've had enough. I want to leave. The drought is the least of my worries. It's bad, but the government is worse. Between the politics and the overregulation of everything, I'm pretty much done. The only reason I'm still here is because my house is a serious investment, and I'm within 3 years of paying it off. Once it's paid off, however, I'm giving serious thought on moving to Reno. Out of California, cheaper cost of living, less government, and still within a couple of hours of my kids.

    Locale Clemmons...suburb of Winston-Salem, NC
Crime rate / safety - the occasional dipstick breaks into a car around here, and of course there was this: murder in Clemmons Other than that it's great.
Politics - you have either extreme, but a LOT of moderates here
Cost of living - Excellent....all y'all Californians need to move to NC.
Cost of housing - Clemmons is maybe a little pricier than Winston-Salem, but not too bad.
    Population - about 20,000
Rural- suburban- urban - suburban for sure
Climate - We actually do have all 4 seasons here.
Terrain - slightly hilly. Drive an hour to the West, it's mountainous...Drive 4 hours to the East (where I'm originally from) and you have the beach
Traffic - fine unless it's snowing...then it's best to stay off the roads.

What you like/ dislike - I LOVE the school system here, and the family atmosphere.
Would you leave or are you a lifer - I plan on being a lifer....granted not in this house...it's a split level, and you have to take the stairs anytime you want to leave or enter the house. Just not something I want to have when I'm 95.

    Locale Detroit, MI
Crime rate / Bad, but not like it used to be
Politics Democrat majority, you do the math
    Cost of living so-so
Cost of housing-wouldn't know--I jointly inherited my mom's house and there's no mortgage
Population Used to be over a million, now close to 700, 000
    Rural- suburban- urban Urban
Climate Right now cold and rainy...winters here are horrible at times, pleasant in other seasons
Terrain Mostly flat, suburbs more hilly
Traffic A LOT of construction going on, especially in the Downtown/Midtown areas (for future rail transit system)..tying up traffic for many

What you like/ dislike Like: Improved transit system...Dislike: crime rate
Would you leave or are you a lifer I would leave after MUCH prayer and God opening a door..it would HAVE to be Him leading
