This 5.7 Hemi in the truck has VVT to widen the powerband into the lower rpm's for towing. They developed crazy power with it in the 4th Gen Ram at 390Hp/407ft lbs they had to tame the mileage issue and added the multiple displacement system where cylinders will shut off when not needed. You can hear it if listening carefully. Still sucks gas but then, if you don't like it go buy a Prius.
Cadillac used that system, I think it was back in the 80s.

They called it 4-6-8 or was it 8-6-4? And it was a fail, really. I can shut off the MDS (multiple displacement system) by choosing the tow/haul mode.

In order to further reduce gas mileage I just put all terrain tires on the van. The guy that took the order kinda scratched his head but the kid that put them on said that it looked really cool.

Apparently my Hyundai Tucson has averaged 26mpg over 18,600ml mostly in around town conditions. (that's 9l/100k over 30,000k)
