Thread: Has anyone gone grocery shopping lately?

Has anyone gone grocery shopping lately?

I have a pantry and I stock up on items as they go on sale, so even if I got stuck in the house for the next 2 to 3 weeks there shouldn't be any problem at all with food and water and most paper goods.

That being said there are some perishables that are nice to have fresh, one of them being milk. I was almost out so rather than going to one of the big grocery stores that are usually busy on Fridays I thought Aldi would be much quicker....not!

The parking lot was jammed and there was only ONE broken cart available. Didn't even go in, just left.

A friend of mine went to Costco this morning and posted a video. It was before it opened and there were scores of people outside with grocery carts waiting for it to open.

Another friend went to Kroger this evening and said the line at every register went back to the middle of the store, with about a 40 minute wait in each line.

We were at WM late Thursday night. They weren't too busy but a lot of things were out. The bread they had left had been moved to the entrance area and there might have been 30-40 loves of their brand of bread. When we left, there were 2 loaves left. They were restocking as they usually do at that time of night.

Our Walmart isn't too bad. I went there yesterday for a few things and mostly out of curiosity. Our local grocer had settled down by evening.

Our shopping is normal. No panic buying here that I can see.

I went to Costco on Friday to pick up a prescription, and I had to wait in line in order to get in - I went "early" (before they opened), and thought I'd beat the crowd, but there were at least 30 people in front of me - It took about 20 minutes - Also, a Costco employee came out, and asked everyone to "Stay orderly, and be considerate of others" - Made me wonder if some folks got out of hand, the day before?

I didn't even look to see if there was any T.P. available (LOL) - I just grabbed a 2-Pack of Jif Peanut Butter, and a container of their (delicious) Cilantro/Lime & Garlic steamed Shrimp (my special treat to myself)

I had to wait about 20 minutes (at the pharmacy) for my asthma meds, and another 20 minutes to checkout the other 2 items.

I could sense "panic" on the faces of many of the shoppers, while others seemed to enjoy the "circus-like" atmosphere.

All in all, it wasn't too bad - Just time-consuming and little hectic.

Went to the store I usually go to yesterday, all was normal as usual. This morning, had to go mail a package, pick up a few things I missed the day before.......... all onions, potatoes, bananas, gone; no top ramen, spagetti noodles, man n cheese, and more...... funny how the potato chip/cookie aisle were all intact, no baby wipes, no tp or kleenix..... a few cartons of eggs left, butter was low.............

There has been some panic buying here, especially toilet paper... shelves were bare in a couple stores -saw pics posted. I need a few things this week. Hopefully I'll be able to find them.

Mrs fuego just went tonight to Kroger. She said it wasn't crowded but lots of empty shelves. All the toilet paper gone of course. All the bread gone, things like that. She found everything she went to get through.
