Thread: St Patrick's Day

    St Patrick's Day

Anyone participate in it in any way? Wearing green, drinking green beverages, making corned beef and cabbage?

I don't do the first two unless I wear green by accident and I usually don't eat, let alone cook, corned beef and cabbage. But I got one last night, made it today and it turned out scrumptious. Beef brisket can be a tough cut of meat but I cooked it low and slow and it turned out great.

I have a pair of small shamrock earrings that I bought in the holiday stuff from WM. (think: somewhat tacky) I wear them if I remember. I love corned beef and cabbage but it's not likely I will ever cook it. I could eat a Reuben from Arby's I guess. I love those!

Not really. Any wearing '0 the green on that day is merely coincidental.

I always make Corned Beef and Cabbage this time of year because...

#1. I love it, and it's easy to make: Toss your Brisket, Carrots, Onions, Celery, and Potatoes in the crockpot and Steam your Cabbage in a separate pot - Done!

#2. My Ancestry DNA test indicated that I'm 10% Irish, soooo there's that too

Mine is 30% but it combines Ireland and Scotland.

I will probably wear a bit of green.

My grandmother came over on the boat from Ireland and insisted on dying there, she was the funniest woman I've ever met.

I drank a Shamrock shake at McDonald's last weekend. Delicious! I wouldn't turn down a plate of corned beef and cabbage either. Before I was saved I used to play music at an Irish pub on St Patty's day. Free food and green beer it was. And I am Polish, English and maybe a smidge of Native American as far as I know.

I'm Scot Irish on my Dad's side. My great grandfather was born in County Tipperary, Ireland. Mama's people came from near the Scottish border in England.

I just saw that it is free search right now for Irish records. I put in my last name and there's like over 1000 instances of my last name in Ireland, people having died, etc.
