Modern Problems
Ok, it's Christmas time and our empty boxes are piling up thanks to this modern thing called Amazon Prime. My wife does this.
So yesterday I head to our recycle station nearby and it's jammed with cars and people stuffing the bins. I just drove on by shaking my head. It's never ever like this. Later on it was less like Walmart on Christmas Eve and went back. Less crowded and dumpster bins emptied. Yup, it's an Amazon phenomena.

Google pushed via their algorithms shopping traffic to Amazon, simultaneously they downlisted smaller local operators. The process took about ten years. Google gained trust over ten years, the next ten years they spent abusing that trust shifting visibility and search ranks to Amazon and their own properties (youtube, adwords, etc). A lot of talking heads (conservatives) are crying foul over google de-platforming them but for small business, the heart beat of America, the de-platforming happened ten years ago. It is all basically a Chinese influenced model, centralization of goods and services.
Time is short. Or... time to fight back? I don't know if there is enough collective sense available to reject these platforms.

I switched to other engines. Bing is less aggressive and I don't have to wade through a first page dedicated to Amazon and Ebay.

Thank God for Amazon. It saved Christmas here because DH has been out of commission after foot surgery. And I, being the nice wife that I am, took care of him.
Also, their pet food prices can't be beat, and they deliver!

Yeah, I had a go round with someone years ago but at the time it was Walmart we were discussing. He said pretty much the same thing.. Thank God for Walmart otherwise people would starve or do without (because of their prices), well, it's pretty much the chicken/egg argument. Walmart destroyed the good local economy which made cheap, inferior things more necessary. So yeah, thank God Walmart is helping the survivors..lol
I understand the convenience of Amazon, that is the "good" part of the technology, the loss of the local feed store who always delivered anyway is the "bad" part. Something else here about that local store, if that store knew what Amazon knows about you and traded that info like peanuts, you would have probably run it out of town.
Sorry. I think that sounds like a scold. My youngest daughter uses Amazon for everything, I still love her.

My wife does all her Christmas shopping on Amazon. She hates to go to Walmart. She's not the typical woman. She doesn't like to go shopping. She shops like a man. Goes to the store to get what she's going there for and leaves. Thank you Jesus!
