My costumes are usually like June Cleaver.. or one year I was as a vampire (this was before they were so *cool*) and had a sign that I was a Democrat wanting more of your blood.
We don't decorate, but we're usually at my sisters and she does a lot.. I do have some fun jewelry I wear.. I do fabric flowers.. and I've done a couple in black and white with spider webs.. you can't really tell what they are.. so that makes it fun.

Its basically just a carved pumpkin so unless its something demonic I'd say no, its not wrong to have. I've even seen some with a Christian theme like this:

Only a wreath (with fall-colored foliage) on the front door, that I put on immediately after Labor Day to signify the beginning of Autumn.
Don't want to give the impression we "celebrate" Halloween at all - So, we don't don't do pumpkins, bales of hay and dried corn or scarecrows.

If it's done humanely I think it is alright to make a jack-o-lantern.
We make sure it is an organically grown pumpkin that is grown free-range, not sprayed with poisons nor in grown in a caged garden.
We also sedate the pumpkin so they feel no pain in the carving.
