    I'm not a southerner but I have used the term 'hon' at times, does that count?

    I use Sweetie a LOT.

    occasionally I'll do an "Oh Honey".. but that's pretty much it.

    Once a while I'll slip and use a little "coo-chi, coo-chi, woo-chi little chu-chi face"

    Only immediate family = husband and kids.

    Never strangers or even friends or acquaintances.

    I actually feel patronized when I'm called "hon" or "dear" by people I don't know, like wait staff and clerks, etc.

    EXCEPT when I'm in the southern states, where it's normal.
