Do you ever call strangers things like "honey," "sweetie," etc ?
Split off from another thread.
And sugar, sweetpea, etc.....

I'm not a southerner but I have used the term 'hon' at times, does that count?

I use Sweetie a LOT.
occasionally I'll do an "Oh Honey".. but that's pretty much it.

Once a while I'll slip and use a little "coo-chi, coo-chi, woo-chi little chu-chi face"

Only immediate family = husband and kids.
Never strangers or even friends or acquaintances.
I actually feel patronized when I'm called "hon" or "dear" by people I don't know, like wait staff and clerks, etc.
EXCEPT when I'm in the southern states, where it's normal.
