Thread: Stuff to argue about?

How about the minimum wage in the US? As in should fast-food workers be paid a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour?

We just had a discussion the other day in my ACA class of whether to enable a family member or not. (granted these are not the students you will have at your liberal arts college)

The discussion came out of me using an example of not bailing out a family member if they've continually been in trouble, and they steal a car. Who knew my classroom would erupt in debate over that?!

Around the 17 minute mark they talk about how they're using colleges to try to indoctrinate naïve students to their cause, maybe you could come up with something in regards to that?

You could probably develop a number of topics related to the trade-offs between individual liberty and the public good. Some examples:
    a) Should an individual be free to do whatever he wants within the confines of his own property?
    b) Should the wearing of bicycle helmets be required?
    c) Should a business owner be free to refuse to provide service to customers of his choosing?

Thanks everybody for some great feedback. I'm crazy busy and have been meaning to discuss some of the examples when I find time. Many of the examples are excellent and we will touch upon them in class. I'll get back here to a more specific response when I can find time. We created a resolution data base in class, I'll share what we have come up with so far, many of them cover some of the same general concerns expressed here.
