Yep. When I lived in Buffalo, the word "blizzard" sent everyone into a tizzy, the shelves were emptied. The hurricane season down here, well, I call it "plywood promotion". It does get interesting though, one time I had a lady at the grocery store ask me about charcoal, wanted to know if she could set up the cooker in her house. Lot's of crazy stories, believe me. So, it's never the hurricane that gets people hurt, it's the stuff they do before and after the hurricane.

    Fear is a powerful thing.

I actually do understand the water thing. It's not necessarily for drinking. With a hurricane it could cause there to be no fresh running water, so it isn't just for drinking that they're stocking it up.

Each fall I begin stashing old 1gal milkjugs with water in the liklihood of power outtages in the winter cold and blizzards. This year I’ll have about 20gal put aside. Our woodstove heats the whole house. Water is also used to pour into the toilet tank for flushing.

Prior to the landfall of a hurricane, fill the tub.
