From Jerusalem to Japan
My wife an I are heading for Japan for three weeks of speaking and business meetings. Japan is the second largest support base for Bridges For Peace, surpassed only by the USA offices. We have over 500 pastors who have meetings to pray for Israel. We usually have at least two Japanese volunteers in Israel all of the time. Needless to say, we love Japan!
I've been writing speeches and preparing powerpoint for several of the meetings. It's no problem to teach or to speak but the Japanese want it all in writing in advance so they can have the translation prepared before we arrive. That is both tedious and challenging.
One sermon is about visiting Jerusalem and the spiritual aspects of coming up to this holy city. Another is about the Hebrew Roots for Christians. That one is sort of scary. I'm sure I could offend every Christian in the world somehow, no matter how I teach that subject. I hope to escape unscathed by teaching about the Hebrew language and how it effects the way we understand God and His revelation in the Bible. I am well aware that there are Christians who don't agree that the Hebrew language books of the Bible are for Christians and that they have been replaced by the New Testament but I'm hoping to avoid dealing with that heresy. I think of old maps that showed places where ships simply disappeared. Sometimes there would be a notation, "Here Abide Dragons!"
Of course, there are very special times mixed into the schedule. For instance, I have to scuba dives scheduled for Tuesday, June 26th. One is to see whale sharks and the other is to see beautiful fish on a coral reef. I'll try to post some pictures and comments while traveling.

Japan previously has been a hard place for the gospel so its great to see God using the Japanese
I know it sounds silly but tell them your height as it may help with some arrangements

Yes, that made me sad. There are two of them in a cage about a mile off shore of Okinawa. The smaller fish come and go but the whale sharks are trapped. They circle endlessly in an octagon shaped cage about 100 feet on a side. I was already somewhat irritated with the dive staff because the gear I rented was sub-standard. It was also a difficult dive because the staff also did very odd things. One guy added air to my dive vest three times, making it nearly impossible to keep neutral buoyancy. He snuck up behind me and grabbed my controls when I wasn't looking. I think he thought he was helping me but actually he was making my dive far less enjoyable. I wanted to smack him but I was rapidly on my way to the top of the net before I could regain control. Rapid ascent is one of the things all divers try to avoid. It can break your eardrums or cause decompression sickness.

I'm just wondering how on Earth (or under the sea) did you get a good seal on your mask?

Sharks, not seals. Come on, pay attention.
Actually, I have a very nice dive mask that has air hoses from my face to my ears and it is very easy to purge a little extra water. I probably clear my mask 5 times on an ordinary dive. Some of my bearded friends use Vaseline. I find a little negative pressure works just fine for me.
How do you like the beach in front of our hotel in Okinawa?
