Vinyl records have been around since the 1880s and gained prominence around 1912 so that should be a-okay unless one of the Pentecostal regulations from that time prohibits it (I haven't checked). Audio cassettes were developed in 1963 and magnetic tape itself in 1928 so we don't do that over here in holiness.

Personally speaking, I went to many rock and roll concerts in my younger days before I got saved. Bands in the likes of Iron Butterfly, Jimi Hendrex, Grand Funk Railroad, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bachman Turner Overdrive, J. Geils Band, to name just a few. All this part of my life back then was filled with drugs, alcohol, violence, and deep slavery to sin and darkness.
I would not go to any concerts that would fit in the category of the bands above. I have no desire to visit my past. If I ever did go to any concerts similar to the above list, I would be miserable and depressed, and episodes of my dark past would flood my mind. No Thanks!

"And God has actually given us His Spirit, not the world's spirit, so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us" (1 Cor 2:12).

"If you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God" (Col 3:1).

"For you were called to freedom, brethren, only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another" (Gal 5:13).

"You were running well, who hindered you from obeying the truth?" (Gal 5:7).

I'm not judging anyone here on this forum if they want to go to worldly concerts.

Scripture says to "give no place to the devil" (Eph 4:27). If I went to a concert that was affiliated with my past, I would be doing just that.

... and then there are people like me who never had a chance to go to concerts. We lived in rural Alberta (still do) and IF a famous band came close, they were still a couple hundred KM away, tickets were hard to get and it wasn't just a day trip anyone made on the roads back then.... And we still have to travel to go to concerts by famous people, we just have the means now.

Rod Stewart was a huge part of our dating years in the 70s and after we got married in 76, we still listened to his music a lot... got saved in 85 and threw out all our secular music and listened to nothing else but Christian music and worship (as bad as some of it was) from then on. Still rarely listen to secular music.

So going to this Rod Stewart concert is simply going to take us back to our dating years (started dating when I was 13 and Rog was 15 in 1970) to young love and all those memories, good and bad. There's one song I hope he does, You're in My Heart:

You're in my heart, you're in my soul
You'll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you're my best friend
    You're in my soul

We still often sing the chorus to each other, after 42 years of marriage and almost 49 years together.

........ and that's about it... a couple of old 60-somethings going to a concert that will take our hearts back to young love.....

And if that offends anyone or makes them believe it will affect our salvation, take a chill pill. There will be not pot, no drugs, no booze, no debauchery. Just going on a date to see an artist we've both wanted to see for a long, LONG time. Call it Bucket List.

eta: the whole venue will likely be filled with 50-60-70somethings... lol

I never attended places of the world. Like sinful Rock concerts. I am glad I am saved and have no part in those things. "Come out from among them and be ye separate saith the Lord."

A Rod Stewart or Chicago or even a REO Speedwagon concert it hardly the same as it was back in the day. Now it's more nostalgia with those groups, and the crowds are filled with much older people and parents and kids, etc. That might be a little overkill for what FO did and AJ is going to do.

Good for you. Although I think you were probably too old to like rock music when it started in the 50's.

That is correct. If I could afford a ticket to one of Elton John's final concerts, I would do that as well. But his prices are waaaaay out of my price range.

Some folk here remind me of this:

Luke 18:9-14 New Living Translation (NLT)
Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector

9 Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else: 10 “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer[a]: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! 12 I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ 14 I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Neither I nor A.J have to defend ourselves about what we take part of. Aight?
