What do you look for......in a daily devotional?

Asked a very good friend today, what do you look for in a daily devotional?

When you thumb through the pages of a devotional....are you looking for inspiration, scripture references to begin your daily reading?

Of course, I am taking for granted, that we all want a bit of encouragement. But beyond that....is there something you "look" for in a devotional?

    Thank you for your time.

I look for the voice of God speaking to me for that day.

I haven’t read any devotionals for a couple of years because I’ve been concentrating more on the Bible reading plans through YouVersion. But the best devotionals that really helped me grow spiritually were the ones by Smith Wigglesworth and Kenneth E. Hagin.

Encouragement is good, but I needed something that would help me understand God better and how to apply His word more successfully in every area of my life, spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
When your praise match your prayers, the answer will come.

Kenneth E. Hagin's "Faith Food Devotions" series (or book) are excellent!

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...

All these books mentioned above are Wof. But there are other excellent devotionals. Check out Oswald Smith, or God Chaser or Jimmy Swaggarts books, etc. There are many you can find that are recommended by the major pentecostal organizations. They need to be easy to understand and not filled with argumentation or heavy on theology.

So? They’re scripturally accurate, anointed, and easy to understand. No argumentation or heavy theology. I have a devotion by Oswald Chambers, and though a lot of it blessed me, I found a few doctrinal errors. I wouldn’t recommend it to a baby Christian.
