What I look for from a devotional is to help me sharpen my understanding of God's word.
Rick Renner's Sparkling Gems from the Greek do exactly that.
You can order Volumes 1 & 2 at amazon.

If you put God First, you have Him at Last.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
(Ephesians 4:17-18)
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
(Psalm 1)
Devotionals have never grabbed me...I have had a few and instead of doing the day by day, I would scan the index for what seemed to reach out....I prefer to let the Spirit lead me to read and meditate. This is not to say He doesn't lead and speak personally through that method...it just never was my cup of tea
I am interested in authors who have a deep spiritual walk, who have been there with God. Not just theoreticians.
