Huge boom just shook Metro Detroit

About 30 minutes ago my house shook, as did everyone's in the neighborhood. I have a police scanner app on my cell phone and a multitude of calls started flooding police departments. From what I can tell people in at least a 100 mile radius felt it and some reported seeing a large green flash in the sky. So far no one knows what it was...huge meteor??

Sounds like another earthquake. When it happened before in Canada, we felt it in Metro Detroit. Can't explain the green flash though.

Found a few stories of a mysterious boom felt Downriver (Metro Detroit) in November. Hmmm?

They're now saying it was a 'super' bolide:

...and it even caused an earthquake:

"After reviewing several observational datasets, the NWS can confirm the flash and boom was NOT thunder or lightning, but instead a likely meteor. We continue to monitor feeds from astronomical agencies for official confirmation of a meteor," read a tweet posted nearly two hours before the NWS confirmed it was a meteor.

LOL...really? I was chillin' in the living room all snuggled up because its been so cold when it sounded like someone rammed my front door. The dog went on alert and started barking and as I looked out I noticed that there weren't any footsteps in the fresh snow so I knew it had to be something big.

Zeke, did you hear or feel it way up North too?

    Here's the update:

Rare falling meteor causes bright and loud explosion above Michigan

-A bright and loud fireball in the sky over Detroit on Tuesday night was a falling meteor.

At about 8:10 p.m. ET witnesses in Michigan and several surrounding states reported hearing a loud boom and a brief blazing flash in the sky, said the American Meteor Society.

Footage from dash cams showed the blast.

The explosion registered as a magnitude 2.0 earthquake on the Richter Scale, U.S. Geological Survey said. Witnesses reported weak or light shaking in areas around where the explosion occurred, according to USGS data.

The meteor was about two yards in diameter and fell into the atmosphere at about 28,000 miles per hour, said Bill Cooke, who leads NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

The flash it made is called a "super bolide," a term given to fireballs that are brighter than the moon but dimmer than the sun, Cooke said.

"Fireballs of that magnitude are pretty rare for Michigan," he said, adding that only about 10 super bolides explode above the United States in a year...

Just saw this post on an aviation forum I frequent:

Did anyone else see the fireball meteor, 1/16/18, about 8:08 EST? Amazing! It lit up the whole sky like daylight in green!
I'm in SE Michigan, and it was towards the southwest for me...I've seen a fireball meteor before, and although it always looks close, I've found in the past I've viewed it from hundreds of miles away, only thinking that it was nearby. This one could have lit up the Chicago area at least.

Here's a video of it someone took from their car and a story"

Less than a month before a fireball exploded over southeast Michigan, a Downriver pastor shared a prediction.

"I had a dream that a meteor was coming to the Great Lakes and it was gonna hit Michigan," Pastor Rick Satterfield, 59, with I Am Church said in a video dated Dec. 31, 2017. "It would cause Ohio and Canada to feel the impact of it."
