...doing my long cross country for my commercial pilot's license. Some of you know I have been a private pilot with an instrument rating for many years. I decided I was going to get my commercial single engine license, which allows you to be hired to fly. The flight has to have one leg at least 250NM from the point of origin. St Augustine is 255NM from where we flew from. Couple of reasons. One is just doing something that keeps you proficient flying. Another would be that if anything happens to fall in my lap about flying for pay, then I'll be able to do it. After I do this I'll do the multi-engine add on for the commercial that would allow me to be hired to fly multi-engine planes.
Here are a few pics from the trip. Pretty cloudy, so we filed IFR (Instrument Fight Rules, where we could legally fly through the clouds). Had a really thick overcast leaving St Simons going back to Covington GA where we flew from. It was fun climbing through it then a beautiful view flying on top of the clouds.
This is the plane. A Mooney 201 200hp single engine 4 seat plane. Complex plane, which means it has retractable gear and a constant speed prop, which you have to use for the commercial checkride.
